Happy 8th Birthday Son:)

My Sonnie boy turned 8 this 3rd September!.............he is already showing the signs of nearing teenage, sigh!!
Why/how do kids grow up so fast!
I don't want to dwell on the sentiments of a child growing up & eventually away,I am just going to share what we did for his birthday!

This is just before he left for school on the 3rd,though we had his party  the next day!

\
For the decor,I made tons of buntings from colorful crepe paper & criss-crossed them across the small lil lawn sprinkled with balloons & a HAPPY BIRTHDAY banner:)

I plucked a bunch of flowers & stuck them in a jug for additional color:)

Cupcake toppers are a novel concept in India,so the kids were super amused by them, they picked up the toppers & left the cup cakes alone in the second serving .......LOL:).................I printed out the free toppers printable from here- Best Gift Idea

Made a ruffle sorta cake inspired from here.............it's not an exact copy but yes the inspiration was that ruffled cake!

I made triangles out of handmade paper, wrote my son's name on it , hot glued it to a scrap of white wool ,tied it to chopsticks & my banner was ready...............Tada :)
 Menu-
1. Noodles
2. Mac 'n' Cheese
3. Pizza
4. Chocolate Chip muffins
5. Samosa
6.Strawberry Ice cream in cones
7. Cake
8. Juices

LOL.............I forgot to click pics of other goodies like favors & the ice cream mania! ........................the kids were going absolutely ballistic especially when doggie B came out to join the celebrations:)

Was a fun party & now I am back to business:)

Clicked pics of a cute Doily Waterproof  Messenger  in white & red which I had made but didn't find the time to list................It is in the shop now:)

The first pic is the entrance................I have put a vintage tall stool with an idol of Tara Devi........she is a goddess worshiped both by Hindus and Buddhists in her different forms. She is surrounded by plantain stems with candles on them................very festive!

Next pics are inside pics of decor, tables, nook & corners................remember this is a formal sit down dinner & I still have my old point & shoot camera;)

Party Planning Part 2- Invitations

So I jumped the gun while posting & made the drinks as the Part 1 for party planning................LOL,it should have been invitations!

I added another handmade paper strip inside to write the invitation on......................wrote it with calligraphy...........yes I can do that, check this out to see for yourself:)

Added a pretty lace to jazz it up & tied it up with a ribbon & YAY .................my invites are ready:)

There are some super cool ideas I pinned on pinterest...............will be using them for my future parties!

Party Planning Part 1-Drinks Continued.................

If you read my blog, you know I am planning a party & am deciding on which mocktail I want to serve.....I went through all the recipes for mocktails & finally zeroed in on my own recipe of Pina Colada..............
This is how I make it

Pina Colada {serves 6}

3 teacups (500ml) pineapple juice
1/2 cup coconut milk
1 bottle sprite/lime based aerated drink
6 tbsp vanilla ice cream
4-5 ice cubes

* Mix pineapple juice, coconut milk, ice cream.Add ice cubes & blend for few secs
* Pour the chilled aerated drink & blend again for a sec
* Serve IMMEDIATELY!

Believe me it's yum!

Next is deciding the glassware & crockery I will be using for the party.....................I took one of each type of glasses I have to compare

I have 2 peg measure, one very modern & trendy ,the other very traditional Indian..................which one should I choose!

Also it's time to open these wine bottles lying around in one corner neglected !

I think I will choose the tall slim glasses for the mocktail & the crystal cut glasses are perfect for whiskey & other drinks!
Now about the crockery.................since this is a formal party,I am going to choose my formal china dinner service which we bought after our wedding,we just celebrated 11 years of togetherness
& I can proudly say that I haven't broken anything in all these years of packing & shifting from one place to another in our adventurous military life....................LOL:)

I just love the delicate floral vines on the white background!

Have any suggestions for me?
Next I am working on invitations & I will be back with the update soonish:)
